Beauty is between Eyes and Mouth

Posted by Doncrack |

Updated on : Friday, December 18, 2009

WASHINGTON: Beauty is not so much in the eye of the beholder as in the measurements between the eyes, mouth and ears of the woman being observed, US and Canadian researchers have found.

In four experiments aimed at finding "an ideal facial feature arrangement," US and Canadian researchers asked students to compare color photographs of the same woman's face, in which the vertical distance between the eyes and mouth, and horizontal distance between the eyes, had been doctored using Photoshop.

The features -- eyes, mouth, nose, contour and hair -- remained the same and a woman's face was only compared to her own, never to another's.

Students looked at different pictures of the same woman's face laid out side by side and selected the face they found more attractive.

In all four experiments, they chose the faces with specific proportions that the researchers have dubbed the "new golden ratio."

Two of the experiments tested for the ideal distance between the eyes and mouth as compared to total face length, measured from the hairline to the chin. Both came up with 36 percent as the golden ratio for "the maximally attractive face."

The other two experiments measured both the ideal length and width ratios.

They both confirmed 36 percent as the golden ratio for the length of the maximally attractive face, and 46 percent as the ideal width ratio -- where the distance between the eyes is 46 percent of total face width, measured between the inner edges of the ears.

Happily, the 36/46 percent ratios "correspond with those of an average face", the study said, meaning there's no pressing need to get out the measuring tape and calculator or to rush to the plastic surgeon.

The study looked only at white women. More research is needed to determine if the golden ratios for men's faces, the faces of people of other races, and children's faces, are the same as for the women's faces in the study.

According to a recent study, women that consume low to moderate amounts of aspirin on a regular basis can severely reduce their risks of death. Deaths related to heart disease are particularly affected by taking aspiring.

The research study was performed by the Massachusetts General Hospital and the Harvard Medical School. In all, 79,439 women were followed every two years from 1980 through to 2004. The study simply asked women if they were consuming aspirin on a regular basis and how many tablets they typically used per week.

The women selected for the study had no history or sign of cancer or cardiovascular disease when the study began. The study found that 45,305 women did not use aspirin, while 29,132 took low to moderate dosages and 5,002 took more than 14 aspirins per week.

By the end of the study, 9,477 of the women had passed away. 1,991 of these women died from heart disease and 4,469 died from cancer. The study found that the women reporting aspirin use had a 25% lower risk of death when compared to those that never used aspirin.

The study found a stronger correlation between using aspirin and a reduction in cardiovascular disease. In fact, those that used aspirin on a regular basis demonstrated a 38% lower risk. They also had a lower risk for cancer, with a 12% lower risk.

“Use of aspirin for one to five years was associated with significant reductions in cardiovascular mortality.” - Study published by the Massachusetts General Hospital and the Harvard Medical School
The exact link between aspirin and the reduction in death is not fully understood, though researchers believe aspirin has a positive effect on pathogenic pathways including insulin resistance, inflammation, oxidative stress, and cyclo-oxygenase enzyme activity.

Whether or not women should take aspirin was not determined through this research because the women were not prescribed regular dosages of aspirin versus placebo medication. Nonetheless, the study indicates that further research into the effects of aspirin is warranted.

Arthritis is an unfortunate side effect of aging for many women. As a result, they experience achy and stiff joints that can make movement seem impossible. According to a new Australian study, however, exercise and movement can actually help reduce the pain associated with arthritis in women.

According to the lead author of the study, Kristiann Heesch from the University of Queensland in Australia, it isn’t necessarily to start maniacally exercising in order to reduce arthritis-related pain. Rather, a bit of simple walking or engaging in moderate activities can be highly beneficial.

"If we could put out a pill that would solve a lot of problems, it would be physical activity, but we can‘t wrap it up into a little pill and give it to people” - Kristiann Heesch from the University of Queensland in Australia

The study indicates that getting exercise for just 75 minutes per day for women in their 70s can lead to significantly less symptoms. Those that were active for at least 2 ½ hours per week experienced even less difficulties and continued to experience less pain for three years afterward. The study also showed that the strongest link between exercise and arthritis was a reduction in lower joint pain. The reasons for this connection, however, are not quite clear.

Although exercise was beneficial in combating arthritis pain in older women, the study found that middle-aged women did not receive the same benefits.

Many American women would feel envious of the women in Mauritania, a small desert country in northwest Africa. Here, obese women are prized for their extra pounds. In fact, women strive to become overweight so they will be viewed as beautiful by the men in their culture.

The reversed method of thinking is spawned from the fact that the country is quite poor and often suffers from drought. As a result, food is not plentiful. By being overweight, a woman demonstrates the wealth of her family.

The people of Mauritania hold obesity in such high regard that all of their love songs speak of heavy women. As one man put it, “A man’s goal is to marry a woman that fills his house. She needs to decorate it like an armoire or a TV set.”

The men feel so strongly that their women should be overweight that they actually threaten to divorce their wives if they lose weight. Although American women may think this mindset would be a blessing, it has actually caused a number of problems for the women of Mauritania.

First, there are the obvious health problems associated with being overweight. Obese women are at a higher risk of developing diabetes, heart disease, and other potentially fatal illnesses. In addition to these health risks, however, families are taking extreme measures to plump up their daughters.

“When I was little, my mother hit me to eat because I didn't want to be fat. Now I want to be big because men like that." – A Mauritanian woman who wants to gain more than 20 pounds.

In Mauritania, it has been a common practice among the wealthier families to actually force feed their daughters. Once woman recalls being forced to drink 14 gallons of camel’s milk every day. If she vomited as a result, she was beaten. If she tried to refuse to drink the milk, she was tortured by having her fingers bent backward until they touched the back of her hand. The girl could no longer run by the time she was ten and, as an adult, struggles just to walk up the stairs. Yet, her mother considers her to be the epitome of beauty.

As a result of this way of thinking, nearly a quarter of the women in Mauritania are obese, which equals about 1.5 million women. In order to put a stop to this epidemic, the Mauritanian government has started a television and radio campaign that warns the people of the health problems associated with obesity. The health ministry has even hired artists to create love songs about thin women.

This is vastly different from the American culture, where many groups are trying to take the focus off of the “thin is beautiful” way of thinking. Ironically, the American mentality has started to help with the problem, however, as the popularity of American soaps and their thin actors have started to make some of the elite in the country change their way of thinking. According to a survey in 2001, only 10% of Mauritanian women less than 19 years old had been force fed, while a third of those 40 or over had been.

An increasing number of women in France are undergoing a form of surgery known as hymenoplasty. As the name suggests, this outpatient surgical procedure involves reconstructing the hymen in order to make it appear as if she is still a virgin.

The majority of women undergoing this procedure are Muslim and are from both France and North Africa. The main draw to this procedure is that, for many of these women, religion dictates that they be virgins at the time they are married. Yet, religious doctrine does not provide a stance on whether or not this surgical procedure is considered acceptable. In fact, all that the head of the Union of French Islamic Organisations will say on the matter is, “If someone committed a sin, the essential thing is to repent.”

“The surgery is an attack on women’s dignity. We will not take part in a market that places value on the quality of a woman – if she’s good or not. It is an attack on women’s liberty.” - Professor Jacque Lansac, President of The National College of Gynaecologists and Obstetricians in of France
Many women are also deciding to undergo the procedure for cultural reasons, with many coming from families that believe strongly in remaining a virgin until married. This procedure, which costs anywhere from $2,000 to $4,000, allows them to effectively become virgins again and to avoid disappointing their fiancés and their families.

Several doctors and activists view this procedure as a slap in the face of women’s rights and liberty. In addition, there is much debate surrounding the procedure being done in state hospitals since France has laws in place that separate church and state.

I've got a confession to make. I am a man and I like diamonds. I know what you are thinking: that I'm Liberace. Well, no. I'm not Liberace. I don't even play the piano. But I like diamonds just as much as anyone else. However, one of the things I noticed is that online, it is very difficult to find information on pink (and other colored) diamonds.

Let's take a look at a whole bunch of reasons that pink diamonds are considered some of the nicest diamonds on the face of the earth and why people go to extremes to buy them.

1) Rarity. Nothing has really changed all that much in the last 100 years. People still like rare items for the very fact that they are rare. If no one else has something, then people are much likely to want it. Call it attention, call it what you will, but rare items always seem to be much more valuable than plane items. The same holds true with jewelry and pink diamonds are no exception. Pink diamonds are fairly rare items to get a hold of. Pink diamonds are off color: nature doesn't seem make them that often. However, man has altered diamonds, and man made (or man altered) pink diamonds can be found being offered by different jewelers. They won't sell for nearly the price that natural pink diamonds will, but they exist.

2) Style. Pink diamonds have been seen in recent years being sported by J Lo and some of the most famous celebrities in the world. They are definitely in with the in crowd. Given that pink diamonds are in style, you can expect to pay a little bit more for them as well. We don't think that pink diamonds are going to go out of style anytime soon, so if you are shopping for them, don't be surprised to see a high price tag given the amount of celebrities who love them these days.

3) Luxury. Pink diamonds are still diamonds. And people love luxury items as much as they ever did. Pink can stand for luxury. Diamonds spell luxury. The two combine to give quite a fancy name to themselves.

These 3 point are merely introductory: learn how to pros buy pink diamonds. Find out how to do it correctly and save a bundle.

When the snow starts to melt and flowers begin to dot the scenery, you know it is spring! What better way to celebrate the coming of the season with packing away your heavy winter sweaters and coats and welcoming the spring season in with pastel colors, feminine prints, and gauzy clothing? When it comes time to plan your spring wardrobe, it may be tempting to run around in thin, flutter sleeve shirts and flirty skirts, but your local weather may not allow it. Keep your physical weather in mind before you buy silky tops, cropped pants, and flippant skirts—finding yourself out in the cold!

Many places in the country equate spring with rain. If you live in an area where the March, April, and May showers mean summertime flowers, then take this into account when choosing your spring fashion wardrobe. Consider purchasing a fantastic rain jacket, cute rain hat, or fantastic umbrella to warm off the wet weather and remain dry. Also, the trend here of recent allows individuals to wear brightly patterned galoshes with everyday clothing in order to protect your tootsies from the puddles.

If you area allows warmer clothing to be ushered in with the spring season, then do not hold back! Choose strappy heels that will provide your feet with a much needed break from stuffy boots. Do not forget to treat yourself to that lovely pedicure and paint your tootsies a lovely pastel shade of pink. Find flirty dresses, skirts, and tops that are one hundred percent feminine and spring-like. You may need to look into a couple of cardigans to cover up on the chilly days, but look for one with pretty trim like lace or crochet. Finally, lighten up from those heavy wool pants and choose lightweight trousers that are crisply pressed and khaki in color.

However, many of us live in areas where spring only means winter with a few more flowers. If you find yourself stuck in winter, even though spring has arrived, change your state of mind. Even though you may still need those heavy coats, perk it up with a brightly colored faux flower corsage. Look into swapping out those dark winter colors for light springtime colors like pinks, green, purples, white, cream, and blues. If you find you need those winter boots, still treat yourself to a pedicure to perk up your tootsies to feel more spring like on the inside.

Have you ever been putting on your makeup and when everything is going well, you suddenly make a mistake that ruins all of your effort? Have you had to take off your makeup some time because, without meaning to, you’ve ruined your makeup? Surely you have; it happens to all of us.

In this article, you will find five of the most common mistakes and the best tips to quickly fix them without having to take off all of your makeup…
We hope you’ll like them and that they’ll help you easily improve your personal image…

“I’VE PUT ON TOO MUCH FOUNDATION”

This is a very common mistake that we all make when we put on makeup. If you are totally made up, to take off any excess foundation, do the following:

• Lightly moisten a clean sponge with water (the sponge should be almost dry and without any makeup residue) and sponge all of your face with downward movements.

TIP: It’s very important, most of all, to avoid excess foundation and concealer around the eyes. To eliminate any excess in this area, perform the same step and afterwards use your fingertips to softly blur the product in that area.

“MY EYESHADOW LOOKS TOO DARK”

If you’ve put on too much eyeshadow, or it looks too dark, follow these steps to quickly fix the problem:

• If it happened on your upper eyelid, blur the eyeshadow toward the edges with a clean brush to reduce the color. If it still looks very dark, apply a little bit of matte cream eyeshadow with a brush (if you don’t have cream eyeshadow, you can use translucent powder) and blur the eyeshadow.
• If it happened on the lower part of your eye, use a fine, clean brush to blur, or pat it softly with a Q-tip.
• If as you were blurring, you’ve left the contour of the eyelid and the shadow looks very dark, blur it with a clean sponge and afterwards apply a little bit of foundation, patting lightly to fix the foundation.

“I’VE PUT ON TOO MUCH BLUSH”

If you applied too much blush, try the following tip:

• Stroke your cheek with a thick, loose powder bush—the brush should be completely clean. If you still have too much blush on, apply translucent or clear powder with the same brush, just over the blush. That way the two powders should mix, clarifying the original color.

“I’VE PUT TOO MUCH MAKEUP ON MY EYEBROWS”

When we put too much makeup on our eyebrows, we look harsh and we can’t even recognize ourselves. Follow the following tip to quickly solve this:

• Simply brush the eyebrow with a clean Q-tip, going against the grain of your eyebrow. You will see how quickly the color you initially applied disappears.

“I’VE SMEARED MASCARA ON MY EYELID”

That’s all right. Just follow these next steps and you’ll see how you can quickly fix the problem:

• Continue applying makeup and when you have finished, allowing enough time for the mascara to dry, apply a Q-tip right over the smudge. You’ll see how it quickly disappears and you don’t need to remove the makeup from your whole eye.

TIP: A good trick to avoid smudging yourself is applying makeup first to your inferior eyelashes and then to the superior.

Elizabeth Arden - Make Up Science

Posted by Doncrack |

Elizabeth Arden is now one of the biggest names in the cosmetics industry. It owns, manufactures, and licenses about a hundred perfumes, while distributing twice that amount of fragrances to retailers. These scents are marketed under different brand names such as Elizabeth Arden, 5th Avenue, Red Door, and Elizabeth Taylor’s White Diamonds. In addition, the company produces and sells colognes and skin care products and other cosmetics.

The founder, Elizabeth Arden, was actually born Florence Nightingale Arden in Ontario, Canada. She took and worked at a lot of odd jobs before settling into the one that she would stay in for most of her life. Moving to New York City when she was twenty four, she worked shortly for a pharmaceuticals company, and then for Eleanor Adair, a “beauty culturist”. With her flair for business, experimentation, and innovation - as well as a real drive for success - the foundation of the company Elizabeth Arden was not far behind.

In 1912, Arden traveled to France to learn the beauty techniques employed in Paris beauty salons. When she came back to America, she brought back more than new knowledge. She also brought back a collection of tinted powders and rouges that she had created. At the time, makeup was usually reserved for stage performers, and this represented one of the first major innovations that the company would introduce to the cosmetics market.

The next major development came when Arden collaborated with A. Fabian Swanson, a chemist, to create a “fluffy” face cream. The product they came up with was named Venetian Cream Amoretta, as well as the accompanying skin lotion, which became a success. This led to a long and fruitful partnership. This was the beginning of a scientific approach to the cosmetics industry, and this company philosophy eventually affected the rest of the industry.

The company continued to grow and prosper under the alert and careful direction of its founder. She died, after a long and full life, in 1966. The company eventually was acquired from Unilever by FFI, which is a New York company. And up to today, the name Elizabeth Arden is synonymous with quality and style.

Some of the mens colognes include; Daytona 500 cologne, PS Cologne for Men, GANT cologne, HUMMER cologne for men and Geoffrey Beene's Grey Flannel. Some of the womens perfumes include; Red Door perfumes, White Diamonds, Passion, Giorgio Beverly Hills, 5th Avenue, green tea, fantasy Britney Spears, White Shoulders, Mediterranean perfume, curious Britney Spears and Wings. Their skin care lines include PREVAGE anti-aging treatment, Intervene and Ceramide.

In June of 2006 Elizabeth Arden acquired the fragrance maker Riviera Concepts, and as a result Elizabeth Arden has started selling more new products to its retail customers. Along with this new addition to the company, skin care and color treatment product sales increased in the Asian markets like China and Taiwan. Elizabeth Arden also bought the fragrance distributor Sovereign Sales in August and is expecting net sales to rise even further in the year 2007. Elizabeth Arden truly is a solid brand that has continuly demonstrated its ability to inovate and grow.

Are you one of those people who gets bored with a hairstyle or hair color really quickly? If you are then hair extensions may be your option.

There are always new hairstyles coming into fashion and if your one of them who likes to follow fashion your more than likely to have the Pob haircut first shown by Victoria Beckham in August. From then on Victoria has been constantly altering her Pob from having it cut shorter to changing the color to blond. If you had long locks and decided to have the Pob you may now want long hair again but you know its going to take a very long time for your hair to grow that long. So why not think of hair extensions as an option.

Hair extensions aren’t just used by celebrities they are very popular with young adults as some fun as well as adults who want longer and thicker hair. These days hair extensions come in a variety of types, lengths, textures and colors. If you’re worried about getting extensions to match your hair color there’s no need to worry, there are thousands of colors to choice from. Hair extensions give you that option of having long hair on a night out and then you are able to take them out when you just want your short or mid length hair as it is.

Changing the color of your hair, having highlights and lowlights to adding colorful tips or strips to your hair are all options with the use of hair extensions. If you’re like me I always like to do something different when I have a night out and I usually end up curling, straightening and even adding some pink to my hair. This all takes time especially the adding pink. The idea of just having to clip a pink hair extension in sounds like less hassle and stress and probably better for my hair, so I know I will be giving it a go next time I go out.

We all like a change of style whether you just straighten your hair if it’s normally curly or curling it when it’s usually straight. I prefer not to keep changing my hair length as I always remember having lots of layers cut into my hair. That was a good 4 years ago and I’m still growing the layers out. I have no decided to keep the length and just change the color of my hair adding different colors or changing the tone of the hair color. With the help of hair extensions I can also add pinks, blues and darker tones to my hair without using coloring kits.

So why not try out new styles out, if you do want to go short remember you can always use hair extensions to add the length you want when you want so why not try out new hair cuts and colors with the help of hair extensions you can go for that dramatic cut and still enjoy the pleasures of long hair.

Beauty Musts For Summer Vacation

Posted by Doncrack |

For some people, vacation time is one and the same as summer. Summer vacation time is a time to frolic in the beach; to make the most of enjoying the sand, sea and sun and; to flaunt those gorgeous bikini ready bodies that have been hidden in shirts, jeans and sweaters during the cold or chilly seasons of the year. But before you let your hair down and be a happy-go-lucky summer fool, you must know that summer can also be hazardous for your hair, skin and all other things that you have carefully nurtured for. Here are a few summer beauty pointers that you might consider to make sure that you maintain that grace under the sun's pressure.

First stop is to protect your hair. Repeated exposure to sunshine and to saltwater if you are often hanging in the beach will definitely do some damage to your lovely mane. It could leave it dry, dusty and worst fried, especially if your hair has gone through a number of chemical processes like hair straightening and hair coloring. Your best bet is to wear a good old dependable hat. You can choose from a myriad of styles -- a cap, a straw hat or a bucket one; whatever suits your taste as long it does the job of protecting your hair. There is also hair sunscreen available in the market now. You may want to apply some on your tresses before you step into the sun.

During summer, the spotlight is usually on your skin. Considering that you will mostly be sporting bikinis and shorts, the sun would definitely have its time beaming its rays on your revealed skins. A number of people go ahead and bask in the sun only thinking of getting that perfect tan. Before you do, make sure that your skin is protected. Having a tan may be cool but sunburns are definitely not. Protect your skin with a quality non-greasy sunscreen beforehand and remember to reapply after every two hours. It is also recommended that you put some on right after you swim and perspire to keep your skin shielded from the sun's harmful rays. As for that tan, there are creams that may help you achieve that desired color without having to spend so much time lying under the sun. These creams can also keep the moisture in your skin.

And last but not the least do not forget about your feet. There is no place for your toe-barring heels, closed formal shoes or sandals in the beach. Flip-flops and bare feet rule. As your toes will be as naked as your bikini laden bodies, it is imperative that they should look good. Walking in flip-flops or in bare feet can make your soles rough and coarse. To revive their smoothness, treat them to a thorough and scrupulous scrubbing when you are taking a shower. Lathering on a rich moisturizer afterwards would make them supple. And remember to keep your nails fresh and neat. You can opt to show them off with a neutral polish or go wild and go for bright colors.

Rules For The Silhouette

Posted by Doncrack |

In order to lose weight in a healthy way you need a balanced diet, rich in nutrients. The most popular diets used for weight loss decrease the level of nutrients in the organism, resulting in disturbance of the metabolism.

As a result, after giving up the diet you will probably notice an increase in your weight, most often even higher than at the beginning of the diet. Everybody wants to lose weight and at the same time eat as much as they want.

The key to success lays in physical exercise and a balanced nutrition throughout the whole day. Here are some rules that will show unhoped results when wanting to lose weight slowly but surely.

The only observation is that the rules have to be respected at the same time.

Nutrition
Drink at least 2l of liquid per day. Liquids include natural herbal tea, not the sweetened nor the bottled ones, water, milk, natural juices.

Eat at least 3 times a day, the ideal is to eat 3 main meals a day and 2 snacks between the main meals. The main meals have to be served each day at the same hours (only this will help you lose 1 kg per week - depending on the weight of each individual.)

There are no drastic restrictions about food. You can eat anything you want, but at the same hours. It is very important to eat the following foods every day: fruits, yogurt, milk, vegetables with leaves, cereals. They should not miss from the daily diet. You should schedule the meals yourselves, according to the weekly activities, but should not delay them with more than 15 minutes.
If you feel like eating something which is not in the diet, just eat it because you deserve to be spoiled from time to time, and most of the time when you feel the appetite for a particular food, the body will transmit the needs for a certain nutrient contained in that food. If you eat the food that you lust for, you avoid the extra stress caused by not eating it, that could finally lead to quitting the diet.

Another important rule when establishing the meal schedule is that we should eat:
• 2-3 hours before bedtime.
physical effort can be made 2-3 hours after the meal or half an hour before the meal, in order for the digestive system to function optimally.
• between main meals you must keep a 3-4 hours distance, but you may ease your hunger with snacks: fruit, yogurt, hot tea, cocoa with milk, coffee or ness. Avoid pasta, and keep the sweets for the dessert after every meal in order for you to eat in smaller quantities.

Sports
Have at least 30 minutes of physical exercise every day. Physical effort includes walking or stretching, not only running or lifting weights. You have to choose the most pleasant, easy to do and less stressful sport, so that you can not quit too easily. It is very important to have 30 minutes of exercise every day .

Beware! It is always wise to combine types of physical effort during the week. For example: on Monday you walk in the park for 30 minutes , do the stretching on Tuesday on the carpet at home, on Wednesday go on foot from work / school, do aerobics on Thursday in front of the TV, or fitness, on Friday evening dance in the disco, on Saturday play tennis with your friends, Sunday is the day when you rest but it would not hurt if you go shopping (on foot).

Results
In order to see the results you must measure your weight and dimensions (bust, waist, hips, chops, kg) before starting the diet and then every week, for example on Sunday mornings at the same time, before having breakfast . Every week you will lose at least 1kg, without efforts and without restrictive diets.

Every morning it is best to plan the meals you will have the rest of the day. As a result, you avoid eat too many sweets or pasta at inappropriate hours.

Good luck!

In order to be able to boast about your nails, you have to make them healthy. The lacks of hydration or, on the contrary, too much exposure to moisture make you nails become very fragile, especially at their tops. Heat, detergents, and the nail polish remover are the worst enemies of your healthy nails. If you are not able to wear protective gloves each time you wash the dishes, immediately after doing it you should use a hydrating lotion for hands. Try not to keep your hands in the water for a long time when you wash the dishes, swim, or even when you take a bath. Nails have the capacity to absorb 20-25 % of their weight when in water, and constrict when dry. If this process repeats often, your nails become weaker. Nevertheless, beyond prevention, there are also natural solutions to revive problem nails:

  • Once or twice a day offer your nails and fingers an olive oil massage. Dwell on your cuticles and sides of your nails. Massaging improves blood flow at the nail level, and it works like a medicine.
  • Heat up some till oil and use it as a nail mask. Leave it work for about 15-20 minutes and then wash it with warm water. Apply this treatment once at most twice a week. Do not forget that too much hydration for your nails make them week.
  • Wear you nails short for a couple of weeks, to help the recovery process. The shorter they are, the risk to tear them becomes smaller.
  • For hydration, choose a lotion rich in urea and lactic acid, an ideal treatment in nail treatment.

  • If you have torn cuticles or small wounds at you nails, then the usual manicure treatments can lead to infections. A handy way to treat this is massaging your nails with worm honey for 15-29 minutes. Honey works against bacteria, and prevents any potential infection. Apply this treatment at night, before going to bed.
  • Allow your nails to breathe. Try not to use nail polish for at least a month. For more severe cases, you may even need three months. Not only that nail polish dries the nails, but also the remover attacks their roots.
  • If you want you nails whiter, apply a pledged with some apple vinegar on each nail and massage them. Another way is to treat your nails with a mild solution of peroxide hydrogen, once a week.

  • For stronger nails, use a garlic paste for a couple of minutes a day.
  • If you have a nail polish addiction, use this treatment for nail strengthening: add 8 drops of lemon, 5 drops of iodine in a bottle of taintless nail polish. Blend it and leave it for a day or so. Then apply it in a thin layer every day for 7 days. Then remove the nail varnish.

  • To get stronger nails, try a diet which consists in foods rich in vitamin B, like cauliflower, peanuts and duckweed. Have these vegetables fresh at least twice a day. Absorbed vitamin B encourages the development of strong and healthy nails. Ask your doctor or pharmacist to recommend an appropriate product.
  • If you want your nail polish to dry faster, apply a thin layer of baby oil too.

Did you know that...?
  • nails grow about an eighth of a centimeter a month;
  • fingernails develop faster than toenails;
  • if you are right-handed, the nails from your right hand grow faster than the ones from your left hand; the reverse is valid for left-handed ;
  • nails grow faster during summer and pregnancy;
  • after 35 years old, nails tend to become naturally more fragile.

Tummy Exercise Myths

Posted by Doncrack |

Our bodies are genetically conditioned on how we lose or gain weight. Interestingly enough, the first place where we gain weight is the last place where we lose it. We cannot reduce only the part we do not like. Once we lose fat from our body, we lose inches everywhere even where we do not want to lose.

The problem with tummy muscles is that we do not generally exercise this muscle in daily life. It is not greatly challenged from climbing stairs, bending, stretching or walking. We, therefore, have to make a special effort to encourage it to come back into line. The movements have to be small and controlled and depend on the effort put in by the exerciser to get really good results. Secondly during pregnancy, as the baby grows inside the muscle (transverse) is pushed forward. A huge amount of stretching is going on and tends to leave the muscle loose and hanging forward after the birth. It is essentially the lack of strength left in this muscle which allows the tummy to sit in that rather round forward position Mothers would recognise from after birth.

In all cases it is the lack of exercise for this muscle which causes it to become loose and give the 'pot bellied' appearance.

  • Myth No. 1: By doing some midsection exercises one can reduce 'love handles'.

Fact: You cannot reduce fat from a certain targeted area of your body just by using exercise alone. And the abdominal area is no exception. So if you want to get a flat stomach and to reveal your abs, losing the fat covering them is the way to go. And the only way to do this is to lose fat proportionately from your entire body by burning more calories than you consume.

  • Myth No. 2: You have to do tons of crunches.

Fact: Overuse of crunches will only shorten your abs, pull your head forward and gives you a bad posture. To reduce fat in your bodies, you need to do cardio exercise and eat nutritious foods in reasonable amounts. In simple language 'burn more calories than you consume.' The cardio helps to burn that stored fat and the lower calorie diet forces the body to use the accumulated fat for energy.

In addition, the crunches and a total body workout (with weight training) helps the body to increase muscle mass. Muscles burn fat; fat does not burn itself so, the more muscle we have, the more fat our body uses for energy, so we lose weigh faster. If you only do crunches, you will develop your abdominal muscles and strengthen them. This will reflect in better posture and less back problems, but you will not be able to see your abdominal muscles because they will be covered with fat

  • Myth No. 3: Exercise is more important that nutrition.

Fact: Diet is one of the key factor when trying to get a flat tummy. Plan your nutrition in advance, to avoid dietary downfalls. Focus on protein, green vegetables, fiber-rich fruits, and zero calorie drinks such as Green Tea and water. Avoid all sugar.

  • Myth No. 4: You must do train your tummy every day

Fact:You don't need to do direct tummy training every day. Instead, train them twice per week and use non-conventional exercises such as Mountain Climbers and Stability Ball Jackknives to reduce the stress on your low back. Avoid the overuse of crunches and sit-ups in your training program. Instead, beginners, should focus on abdominal endurance with planks and side planks, and work up to more advanced exercises, but still avoid doing hundreds of crunches lying on your back.

Concentrate on increasing daily incidental activity. Reduce the use of labour saving devices like remote controls etc. Rearrange the house or office environment so that it is physically inefficient making movement mandatory. Try standing or, even better, pacing when chatting on the phone. Park further away from the entrance of a shop, and use the stairs instead of the elevator. ...source: www.womenfitness.net

Adjusting Your Skin Care To Fit Your Age

Posted by Doncrack |

How to optimize your skin care to fit your age? This issue raises both much interest and much confusion. Some experts declare that the need to adapt a skin care routine to fit a particular age is marginal because the essential physiology of the skin does not change all that much. Others assert that your skin care routine should account for every hormonal change in the body, especially those associated with aging.

The truth is probably somewhere in the middle. The core mechanisms of skin physiology are the same at any age. Yet, many things do change, including metabolic rate, cell turnover rate, hormonal levels, accumulation of damaged cells and molecular garbage, prevalence of inflammation and so forth. Taking those into account is likely to provide extra benefits.

  • Byological Vs. Chronological Age
The age of your skin should be judged based on biological factors rather than simply your date of birth. Biological and chronological age are rarely very far apart but they are not the same. The rate of aging varies among people due to genetic and lifestyle differences. The variation in the rate of skin aging is particularly high (compared to other tissues) because the skin is more exposed to the environment. When optimizing your skin care, you can use your chronological age as a starting point but you should also take into account biological factors that may have affected your rate of aging. For example, if you are in your twenties but your skin has suffered a lot of sun damage, you may benefit from the anti-wrinkle treatments (e.g. tretinoin a.k.a. Retin A) that are otherwise best used later in life. If you are undergoing early menopause in your late thirties, you might benefit from topical estrogens and/or progesterone even though such treatment are typically contemplated in late forties.
  • You Need The Basics At Any Age
A number of basic practices are essential for optimal skin care at any age. Skipping them is likely to undermine the rest of your routine. Make sure you protect your skin from avoidable damage, particularly sun damage. Establish a sensible basic daily routine matching your skin type. Then determine whether you need any age-specific steps .  ..source:www.smartskincare.com

HOW TO TAKE CARE OF HAIR EXTENSIONS

So you've got the all-new look, you've got the long gorgeous mane you've always wanted to have, and you're feeling like a total goddess thanks to your longer locks. But they're not going to stay beautiful unless you really make the effort to take care of them. Your extensions might not be your real hair, but that doesn't mean you should just neglect them. We've got hair extension care tips for you right here, so take the time to check them out.

First and foremost, you have to keep your hair clean. Use a mild shampoo and conditioner or better yet, ask your stylist what kind of products would work best your hair and your extensions. When taking a shower, it's recommended that you gradually wet your hair instead of putting on the full pressure of water on your head right away, which could cause a lot of tangling.

Going to the pool or the beach? Feel free to toss around your newly-lengthened tresses while you're frolicking in the sand or lounging around beside the pool. But when the time comes for you to take a dip, tuck your hair under a swim cap. Chemicals and saltwater can do great damage to your hair. Wash your hair afterwards in case some of these seeped into your cap during your swim.

Don't worry about putting your hair in buns, braids and ponytails. Your hair will still hold up when styled in different ways. Just make sure you use some good clips and bands which won't stretch out your hair.

If you're going to style your hair, remember not to use too much heat because it could turn your hair frizzy. Wash your hair with lukewarm water and let it air-dry afterwards. If you really must use a hair dryer, go with ionic dryers for best results.

An important reminder for you would be to stay away from coloring or perming your hair yourself. As always, consult your salon first and leave all treatments in their hands.

Following these simple tips will keep your extensions looking nice and natural. Best of all, you will get to keep your goddess-like locks for a longer period of time!

As we age, exfoliation is vital for smooth, supple, healthy skin; however it is the one step that is commonly skipped in a skincare regimen.

The image

Exfoliation

To loosen, remove and slough away dead skin cells on the outer layer of the skin, the epidermis. Our skin continually exfoliates itself, a naturally occurring process that slows down as we age. Administering a mechanical (sugar, salt, crushed nuts, luffa, pumice, etc.) or chemical (fruit enzymes, salicylic & glycolic acid, etc.) exfoliation helps to accelerate the process. This article will cover natural mechanical exfoliation.

Benefits

Exfoliating exposes the supple layer of smooth skin and promotes new cell regeneration. Usually, a single treatment will produce results; your skin will be soft, smooth and free of, or display less dry patches and rough spots. During and after a treatment the pores can be more thoroughly cleansed and skin is properly prepared and more receptive in receiving skincare products. Select an exfoliation product that fits your skin type; this may differ throughout your body.

Facial Exfoliation

Gentle natural facial exfoliation products may contain mild clays, soothing colloidal oatmeal, soft fruit seeds & powders, herbs and other non-abrasive ingredients. A natural exfoliating facial masque can be quite soothing for tender skin.

When choosing a cleanser or scrub, take care not to over work/scrub your face. Begin with wet skin and apply the product using a light pressure, moving around the face and neck in a gentle circular motion being careful not to tug or pull on the skin. Do not use around the delicate eye area.

Below the Neck

A good multi-tasking exfoliating product for the rest of the body is a sugar scrub, which can also be used for shaving your legs. Sugar Scrubs will not burn if you have any little nicks or cuts, as a salt scrub would. You would not want to use a salt scrub for shaving. The smaller the granules, the easier it will be on your skin and of the two, sugar is better suited for sensitive or delicate skin.

A natural scrub with an oil base not only exfoliates, but also conditions and moisturizes the skin, which eliminates the need to apply moisturizer afterwards. When choosing a natural sugar scrub, look for healthy ingredients including organic sugar, cold pressed oils and essential oils; avoid products made with fragrance oils. If you find the scrub you are using leaves you feeling more moisturized than you would like, simply give a quick wash after you have exfoliated. A bath mat is suggested when using oil based products.

Feet

While it is perfectly fine to use your body scrub on your feet, it is also okay to use a product with an intensified scrubbing action, should you have extra dry or harder skin there. Ground pumice, luffa and finely crushed nuts, such as walnuts or almonds are all good natural choices for feet.

Length of time between Treatments

Refer to the product label instructions, keeping in mind that they are common guidelines, every one's skin may respond differently to the same treatment. Listen to your skin, if it feels sore or raw after a treatment, stop using it immediately. People with sensitive facial skin may only want to exfoliate one or twice per month with a very gentle natural product. The rest of your body may do well with a weekly treatment, again if this is too often for your skin type, cut back to a couple times each month. Take charge of and personalize your own beauty care regimen, make sure that it suits you.

Certain foods are extremely difficult for the human body to convert into body fat - not impossible but damned near impossible. By consuming calories derived from these foods, the anabolic margin of error is extended dramatically, which means it will be easier to lose fat and gain muscle, if you choose.

Lean protein, protein devoid of saturated fat, has been the staple, the bedrock nutrient of elite athletes for 50 years. Why? You can eat a mountain of lean protein and not get fat - assuming you train with intensity sufficient enough to trigger muscle growth. Lean protein is difficult for the body to break down and digest. As a direct result of this digestive difficulty, the body kicks the metabolic thermostat upward to break protein down into subcomponent amino acids.

The human body wants to preserve stored body fat as a last line of defense against starvation. If overworked and under-fed, the body will preferentially eat muscle tissue to save precious body fat.

Obese people that go on crash diets, precipitously slashing calories, might lose 100-pounds of body weight, yet still appear fat. Despite losing from say 350-pounds to 250-pounds, they still appear fat because they still are fat. The body has cannibalized muscle tissue and saved the fat. Though they might weigh 100-pounds less, they still possess 25-40% body fat percentile.

Lean protein is the bedrock nutrient in the physical renovation process because it supplies muscle tissue battered by a high intensity weight workout with the amino acids needed to heal, recover and construct new muscle tissue. Lean protein is a bedrock nutrient in the physical renovation process because it causes the basal metabolic rate (BMR) to elevate; the metabolic thermostat, the rate at which our body consumes calories, increases when digesting protein. Lean protein is a bedrock nutrient in the physical renovation process because it is damned near impossible for the body to convert it into body fat.

The other bedrock nutrient in the physical transformation process is fibrous carbohydrates: carrots, broccoli, green beans, bell peppers, spinach, cauliflower, onions, asparagus, cabbage, salad greens, Brussels sprouts and the like. Fibrous carbohydrates, like lean protein, are nearly impossible for the body to convert into body fat. Fibrous carbohydrates require almost as many calories to digest as they contain. A green bean or carrot might contain 10-calories yet is so dense and difficult to break down that the body has to expend nearly as many calories to break down that bean or carrot as the vegetable contains.

Fibrous carbohydrates have a wonderful "Roto-Rooter" effect on the internal plumbing: as they work their way though the digestive passageways they scrape mucus and gunk off intestinal walls and help keep sludge buildup to a minimum. For this reason fibrous carbohydrates are the perfect compliment to a lean protein diet. Too much protein can cause bile buildup: fiber is the Yin to protein's Yang. The two nutrients should be eaten together.

Both protein and fiber have a beneficial dampening effect on insulin secretions. It is no accident that professional bodybuilders, the world's best dieters, capable of reducing body fat percentiles to 5% while maintaining incredible muscle mass, construct their eating regimen around protein and fiber.

The best way to eat is to eat often. If you eat 3,000 calories a day the best way is in five 600-calorie feeding or six 500-calorie feedings instead of a breakfast containing 400-calories, a lunch of 1000-calories and a late dinner of 1,600-calories. Avoid calories easily converted into body fat.

Eat multiple small meals in the 400-600 calorie range comprised exclusively of foods near impossible for the body to convert into body fat. Plus, these foods cause the metabolism, the BMR, the body thermostat to elevate in order to digest them. Optimally you should eat every three hours: in about the time the nutrients from the previous meal have dwindled, been expended and exhausted, in about the time the elevated metabolism is 'settling back down to normal,' eat another small protein/fiber meal. This reestablishes anabolism, kicks the metabolism upward once again and gives the body more practice at assimilating and distributing quality nutrients.

They say practice makes perfect and by eating small, power-packed, tough to digest meals every three hours, the metabolism is kept elevated, anabolism is established and maintained and the individual never feels hungry. A person who is not hungry is far less inclined to binge on sweets and treats, junk and trash then the crash diet/calorie cutters who always feel hungry, deprived, listless and lacking energy.

The small meal/protein/fiber approach has been used successfully by elite athletes for decades and is not some untried dietary abstraction - rather it is the proven method of choice, one that has withstood the test of time, one that has been used for decades and been proven effective time after time.

If a person is able to establish a multiple meal schedule comprised primarily of lean protein and fiber eaten every three hours, then adds to this eating schedule some serious weight training and a cardiovascular regimen, physical transformation is a biological certainty.

Laser Hair Removal - Is it Right For You?

Posted by Doncrack |

laser hair removal

Laser hair removal is heavily advertised but little is known about this technology. However, that will change after you spend 58 seconds to read every word of this article and become well-informed on permanent hair removal. After analyzing the facts you will be able to make a decision on whether or not laser hair removal is right for you.

How It Works
The laser is used to quickly and gently remove unwanted hairs.
Laser hair removal uses a light wavelength that targets dark colored materials on your skin. This is usually the pigment of the hair. A hand held device is then used to target these areas and remove hair from them. This procedure works best for those with fair colored skin and dark colored hair. With darker skin, it is harder to target these areas. People with darker skin can be treated, but results are slower and more sessions are required. Also, you'll want to find a doctor with greater expertise if you do have darker skin.

Laser Hair Removal must be individualized for each patient.
Different types of hair respond differently to the laser procedure. Coarse dark hair seems to respond the best to laser treatment. Light hair is much more difficult to treat. Blonde or red hair becomes extremely complicated. With lighter hair, results are variable and you must have multiple treatment sessions.

Actually, almost everyone requires multiple treatment sessions for optimal results. This is because hair grows in cycles. Not all of the hairs are in the growth phase at any given time. Additional sessions insure that you catch all of the hairs when they are in the growth phase.

Cost of Laser Hair Removal
The costs of laser hair removal can vary depending on your location. However, they range from $300 to $500 per session. Because this is a form of medical care, it is always best to seek the clinic with the highest quality rather than the lowest price. Laser hair removal requires many years of training, individual attention, experience, and a trained, caring, and professional staff.

Side Effects of Laser Hair Removal
Most patients do experience some very minor side effects after each session. This is usually in the form of a mild sunburn-type sensation that goes away in 2-3 hours. Moisturizers and cool compresses can help to relieve any discomfort during this time. Any small blister areas that may appear should be treated with a topical antibiotic until resolved. Because you have been exposed to this particular form of light ray, sun block should be used for up to 6 weeks after treatment if you expect to be exposed to the sun. Any further instructions should be given by your doctor.

If you tired of waxing or shaving, laser hair removal may be the perfect solution for you. Now that you know more about it, you should be able to make the right choice for you.
